REVIEW | Babyganics Mineral-based Baby Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 50

REVIEW | Babyganics Mineral-based Baby Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 50

I have tried out several sunscreens so far but haven't found my HG yet. Most of them work well, I just don't particularly love them. Today, my review is about the newest one in my sunscreen collection.

Ingredients:

Active Ingredients: Octisalate 5.0%, Titanium Dioxide 3.0%, Zinc Oxide 6.0%

Inactive Ingredients:  Water, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Neopentyl Glycol Diethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Stearyl/Octadodecyl Citrate Crosspolymer, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Jojoba), Hydrogenated Dimer Dilinoleyl/Dimethylcarbonate Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut), Glycerin, Solanum Lycopersicum Seed Oil (Tomato), Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (Sunflower), Vaccinium Macrocarpon Seed Oil (Cranberry), Nigella Sativa Seed Oil (Black Cumin), Rubus Idaeus Seed Oil (Red Rasberrry), Butyrospermum Parkii Butter (Shea), Jojoba Esters, Stearyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Behenyl Alcohol, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Silica, Alumina, Ethylhexylglycerin, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Phenoxyethanol

Scent: It has a chemical smell, not strong but still, not a nice smell.

Texture: A cream-type texture, quite thick.

My thoughts: The main reason I bought this sunscreen was because I wanted a sunscreen that had Zinc Oxide as active ingredient and concentration had to be more than 5% of Zinc Oxide. I found some different sunscreen but I decided to go with this one 'cause it was meant for baby/kids so I thought it would be more gentle on the skin. Previous to Babyganics Sunscreen Lotion, I was using Missha Safe Block Essence Sun and it absorbed like an angel, disappeared in seconds, totally no stickiness and I loved that. But like I said, I want something with Zinc Oxide since it is the best sunblock ingredient so far.

Babyganics sunscreen lotion doesn't feel heavy when I apply it but it certainly doesn't absorb as quickly as my Missha sunscreen. It is also not sticky or greasy, which is a big plus. I hate any sunscreen that is sticky or greasy, I'll toss them away immediately. However, this sunscreen lotion does leave a feeling of its existence, you will feel like there is something on your skin. It has a smooth finish, not dewy but not very matte either. The lotion will slightly tone-up your face as it leaves a thin white cast. You can see the picture below that the back of my hand is a little brighter as I rubbed in the sunscreen lotion.

It takes about 5-10 mins (depend on how much sunscreen you apply, and don't apply too much) for the lotion to dry out completely and when it does, you may still feel it when you touch your face but it feels a lot lighter on the skin.

In conclusion, Babyganics Mineral-based Baby Sunscreen Lotion does a pretty good job as it doesn't turn me into a zombie (with heavily white face) nor break me out. Although it doesn't absorb as well as I want, it doesn't leave a greasy/sticky feeling. I'm not sure I will repurchase as I don't see anything special about it and I am not crazy about its smell either :(

Oh, one more thing, although the brand name is Babyganics, I don't recommend you using it for your kids as this sunscreen contains Octisalate - an ingredient that may be considered not totally safe. But as every other sunscreens I found all contain Octisalate, I guess adults like us will be fine.

My rating: 3.5/5
